Commitment to Sustainability by Brazil Products Company
Below is a partial checklist of the items in Garden Pure's Level 2 Certification
Does Brazil Products Company do the following?:
1. Does the company minimize its use of available water supplies, conserving water for downstream users and wildlife? YES
2. Does the company limit its draw-down of groundwater by using efficient water and irrigation techniques, and selecting plant varieties that use less water? YES
3. Does the company severely limit the contamination of water runoff (return flows) by restricting the use of pesticides, herbicides, nitrates, selenium, and organophosphate fertilizers? YES
4. Does the company restore wildlife habitat and use agroforestry to minimize the impacts of salinity and high water tables? YES
5. Does the company select plant species and varieties that are well suited to the location and conditions of the farm? YES
6. Does the company diversify and rotate its crops and livestock and use practices that enhance the biological and economic stability of the farm? YES
7. Does the company manage the soil to enhance and protect soil quality, including regular additions of natural organic matter and use of cover crops that increase soil aggregate stability, soil tilth, and diversity of soil microbial life? YES
8. Does the company make efficient use of laborers that are both humane and life-enhancing for them? YES
9. Does the company take into active consideration the goals and lifestyle choices of its laborers? YES
10. Does the company make efficient use of energy resources, mindfully using less energy intensive methods of crop production and transport? YES
11. Does the company maximize reliance on natural, renewable on-farm inputs rather than importing them from outside sources? YES
12. Does the company limit the use of chemicals that harm the environment and/or are toxic to humans, animals, beneficial insects, and soil microbial life? YES
13. Does the company use the most energy efficient transport system possible to move its products to market, and bring-in needed supplies? YES
14. Does the company use product packaging design to limit the type, weight, and amount of packaging in such a way that it lowers its use of fossil fuels all the way to the final customer, including lowering the consumption of shipping and packaging materials, especially those that are not easily recyclable? YES
15. Does the company have an effective recycling program for all its materials? YES
16. Does the company participate in the support and development of the local communities in which it does business, including helping to meet employment, educational, health, housing, cultural and spiritual needs? YES
17. Does the company work closely with its suppliers, environmental contractors, wholesalers, transport companies, and retailers to minimize their environmental impact, while encouraging, supporting, and rewarding with its business those that are committed to their own effective sustainable practices? YES
18. Does the company participate in consumer awareness campaigns to promote sustainable practices? YES
19. Is the Company committed to the principles of Sustainable Agricultural practices,and willing to pursue active policies to implement both the letter and spirit of this important global goal? YES
